Disney’s Star Wars Episode VII is in news since long. It is one of the most highly anticipated movies and a sequel of the arguably most popular franchise of the world. And, the movie is a sequel to all other six movies of the past. And, those were released in a vast span of timeline. And, being a sequel to that franchise, it will be tough enough to pose it as an unique individual movie. And, it is likely, the audience may demand for the knowledge of the past stories or films.
But, Disney did not own the rights of those movies. So, it has denounced a special way to impart knowledge about the past films. Just a few weeks back, Disney announced they would be releasing children’s book versions of the original films. And, now, they went a step ahead with technology – releasing mobile-apps Star Wars Journeys. These are the interactive games that will not only provide knowledge but at the same time will involve the individual and make the person more curious of the sequel.
The company has already released the first episode of the game – Star Wars Journeys: The Phantom Menace. It has released only in Apple devices with a price tag of $6.99. The strategy is to pop out each app for each movie leading to Episode VII.
“The strategy is good. Fantastic way to earn money from the movies you don’t own rights to.” says a trade analyst. “Releasing only in Apple devices is a niche targeting” says another.
But the truth is here. It is an extremely fascinating idea to attract kids – impart them the story by involving them. But, the worry remains that after the last installment app of Episode VI – whether it will make people curious for the next app or the movie.
