Fall season is off to a good start with the return of popular shows like Agents of SHIELD, Modern Family, and The Big Bang Theory. TV still has a bunch more to offer to viewers this season including the much awaited return of several fan-favorites and the premiere of a couple of interesting new shows. Here are the shows starting this month that we think require your attention:
1) The Walking Dead: Season 7
It should not come as a surprise that The Walking Dead topped the list this time. Ever since its debut in 2010, TWD has received hoards of praise from both critics and fans. However, the hype surrounding the show’s seventh season premiere is much bigger as it would see the resolution to the sixth season finale’s infamous cliffhanger that shook the internet. All of the show’s main cast including Andrew Lincoln, Lauren Cohan, and Norman Reedus will return with one of them set to be killed off in the premiere by the antagonistic new player, Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Season seven will also see the introduction of a fan-favorite character from the comics called Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and his pet tiger Shiva. These are only a few of the reasons behind the hype for The Walking Dead’s seventh season along with the ever looming question of who will make it to the end of the show, or at least the season.
Season seven of The Walking Dead will premiere on October 23rd.
2) Westworld
Produced by HBO, Westworld was already hailed as the next Game of Thrones way ahead of its premiere. Westworld is a sci-fi drama/western action-thriller based on the classic science fiction movie of the same name directed by Michael Crichton. The show is set in a scientifically advanced amusement park that malfunctions and sends a killer android after its visitors, exploring themes related to artificial intelligence and advancing technology. Besides the intriguing premise and the HBO production, the crew attached to Westworld is yet another factor sending expectations sky-high. Westworld is developed by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy with J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk acting as executive producers. The premiere is directed by Nolan himself and the show will feature a stellar cast consisting Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, and James Marsden.
Westworld premieres on October 2nd.
3) Falling Water
Falling Water is a supernatural drama originally created by Blake Masters (Law & Order: LA) and Henry Bromell (Carnivàle, Homeland) before Brommell’s death in 2013. The show features an unpopular cast and crew. It will be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who will serve as an executive producer alongside the creators. Its cast includes French actress Lizzie Brocheré, who has previously appeared in American Horror Story and The Strain, joined by Will Yun Lee (The Wolverine) and David Ajala. Despite the crew lacking any major acclaim, the show has an intriguing premise which will hopefully be enough to earn it a decent viewership. Falling Water’s plot revolves around three unrelated people who discover that they are dreaming parts of the same dream and what it implies for them and the world they live in.
Falling Water will premiere on October 13th.
4) Supernatural: Season 12
Sam and Dean Winchester will be back this year again in the twelfth season of Supernatural. This time around, things will take an interesting turn for the brothers as they will be reunited with their mother who was returned to life at the end of the former season. It is quite an achievement for Supernatural as it has not only managed to churn out twelve seasons but has also managed to maintain a decent level in the quality of its story-telling and characters. But it should also be acknowledged that the show will never regain the glory of Eric Kripke’s original five seasons. Whether or not Supernatural will be able to continue to keep the fans hooked remains to be seen when it returns this month. Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Mark Sheppard will return in their respective roles in season twelve.
The twelfth season of Supernatural will premiere on October 13th.
5) The CW Superhero Shows
All the shows in The CW’s shared DC Comics universe will return with their new seasons over October. The CW had inadvertently kicked off its TV universe with the premiere of Arrow back in 2012. Since then, the rising popularity of Arrow sowed the seeds for a shared universe (dubbed the Arrowverse) which spawned The Flash in 2014, Legends of Tomorrow in 2016, and an animated web-series called Vixen. The CW has also acquired and added CBS’s Supergirl to its roster. It was also announced that this season would feature a four-part crossover series bringing together all four shows and their main characters.
The following are the premiere dates for the shows in the Arrowverse: Arrow (Season 5) on October 5th, The Flash (Season 3) on October 4th, Legends of Tomorrow (Season 2) on October 13th, and Supergirl (Season 2) on October 10th.
