Avengers Infinity War Trailer: An Emotional Floodgate

Eight years and 14 films later, it’s finally time for a showdown. When we say showdown — we mean — SHOWDOWN. The trailer of Avenger: Infinity War is here, and it has unleashed a lot of emotions. We just need some time to process.

“There was an idea… to being together a group of remarkable people…” Nick Fury’s (Samuel L Jackson) is heard saying in the trailer — maybe for the final time. It has been confirmed that Infinity War is the final MCU flick for many of the Avengers. The voiceover is a throwback to the one from the first Avengers movie, which had Fury echoing the words. The trailer then cuts off to a stunning comic montage of the Avengers, in signature Marvel style, complete with the Danny Elfman theme.

Infinity War is the 19th film of the cinematic universe, and is the culmination of all evil space baddies —Thanos (Josh Brolin) — who is trying to collect the Infinity Stones for his gauntlet. A lot happens in the 2.24 minute trailer, which was released yesterday, after what feels like a hundred-year wait. The trailer, as promised, is a mega mash-up of superpowers.

Here the 10 things that caught our attention:

Vision – A Human Vision

A human vision (Paul Bettany) kicks off the trailer, and that’s honestly the best thing to happen. Ever.
Bleecker Street has the most action

Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Wong and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Junior) reunite in Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum in 177A Bleecker Street. They have a damaged stairway behind them, which can only mean one thing — Hulk. The foursome are distracted by some sort of chaos outside the Bleecker Street residence, and we think it might be something major.

Hey, Spidey

They just won’t let Spider-Man enjoy school. Tom Holland aka Spidey aka the only millennial Avenger is on a school bus, when his Spidey senses are on full alert. He glances around, as does the entire school bus, to notice the space portal looking over the New York skyline — the one that would bring Thanos to Earth. A closer look at the portal really impresses us.

Thanos!!!

He is here, and he is there, and he is just everywhere. “In time, you will know what it’s like to lose. To feel so desperately that you’re right, yet to fail, all the same,” he enters the scene as his voiceover ends — with the words, “Destiny still arrives”. And can we just take a moment to appreciate how masterfully the trailer is made? Anyway, back to Thanos — he is so lit, we almost want him to win (almost). He already has two stones — just make his gauntlet already.

Can we just have Black Panther in the front row?

Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) is so ready for his solo outing (which comes out in February 2018), that he is calling all the shots. And we love it. “Engage all defences, and get this man a shield,” he says in the trailer, obviously referring to Captain America. Black Panther and his homeland Wakanda, and even a few other characters from the arc feature quite prominently in the Infinity War trailer. The blue-lit spear clearly gave us goose-bumps.

The bearded Captain!!

Captain America is in the building, and he got a makeover. The film obviously explores a personal dilemma that Steve Rogers faces in the comic book, and all that. But here, he has a black suit, and a beard. At the end of Captain America: Civil War, Steve sent his shield to Iron Man, and went on the run. A recently released footage from Infinity War, which was showcased at the Disney convention D23, shows Steve Rogers with longer hair and a beard, which has made fans believe that he is indeed playing Nomad in the upcoming movie.

Blonde Widow

Black Widow is ‘Atomic Blonde’ now. Seriously?!

Moment of the Gauntlet

The moment when Thanos puts the second Infinity Stone on his gauntlet — Priceless.

The all out action scene. Where have we seen this before?

Game of Thrones. We saw this in Game of Thrones. The shot where the entire Avenging army runs is the Dothraki bretheren against the Lannisters, and the Falcon weirdly measures up to Dany’s dragon. Did they copy it? (GoT vibes)

The final frame

Umm. Can easily be made into a wallpaper (for this year)…
