Review: KI & KA

428034-arjun-kareena-ki-n-ka30-year-old workaholic Kia (Kareena Kapoor) meets 27-year-old Kabir (Arjun Kapoor), a MBA graduate and also the son of a wealthy builder who has no interest to be a part of the pointless rat race in life but wants to be like his late mother- a housewife.

Director R. Balki’s fourth film ‘Ki & Ka’ has a different concept yet again but is low on content (yet again). The idea of a role reversal in marriage is actually a brilliant original idea in a rom-com, the credit of which goes to Balki for also penning the script. But his direction is inconsistent at times and post-interval, it drags several times. What doesn’t let down ‘Ki & Ka’ are the performances. Arjun Kapoor has wisely chosen a role which will be liked by all housewives. He is quite fantastic. Kareena Kapoor is terrific. This easily ranks among her best performances. Watch her in the scenes when she gets jealous of her husband and later admits it. A brilliant actress like her should not accept those cheap silly item numbers. Both of them share an easy chemistry.

ki-and-ka-story-+-fb_647_010216112711The supporting cast (Swaroop Sampat, Rajit Kapur) is good. Balki, a big fan of Big B casts him here too but in a nice cameo with Jaya Bachchan. It’s a lovely little scene where they have a small argument on Mrs. Bachchan’s decision to leave working in movies in order to be a homemaker.

At the Box Office, ‘Ki & Ka’ won’t be able to do too well and a major reason would be the plot if there is any; the masses won’t relate to it.

‘Ki & Ka’ is fun till it lasts and quite a cool movie without being preachy and over-dramatic about gender equality. It does break some stereotypes.

I'm going with a 2.5 for the movie plus an extra half for the concept and another half for the performances.

About Abhirup Dhar

I don't watch movies... I live them! Let me introduce myself. Abhirup Dhar was born in Kolkata and is still being brought up in India. A banker by profession, he is filmy to the core and is passionate about reviewing movies and writing. He likes to live on his own… he likes to be blunt, sarcastic, famous, infamous, confident, over-confident, moody at times… he likes to be himself. He is imperfect because perfection is boring. His love for movies dates back to his childhood days when he studied in a boarding school. A three-month Winter Vacation every year… and he made sure he watched as many movies then. Parents thought it was a phase... he knew it was Passion and he knew it back then itself. The craziness to watch movies on the Big Screen began during the last two years of school when he literally bunked to town so that he could catch up with the new Hindi Movie releases. Some thought he was plain crazy. He confirmed it was Passion... yet again. The hard fact is that not always can you walk a path you are passionate about. You have expectations to fulfill and Life to be made. But Life gives you chances and you have to grab them. So... here is he... your friendly critic who will be giving you his Verdict every week so that you can decide which release is worth your moolah and which is not! See you at the Movies!
