I have never been a fan of Sooraj Barjatya’s family sagas but him coming together with Salman Khan after a hiatus surely had my expectations soaring, also because the phenomenal superstar is at the helm of affairs for quite some time now. Salman sparkles reprising Prem and his fans will admire him in a double role. Sonam gets her biggest film till date and is quite okay. I also liked a few songs; music made these days rarely sound good to my ears. But ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ bored me and got me restless several times. Barjatya surely knows the pulse of his audience, ones who like to get moist-eyed while watching a brother trying hard to pacify an angry step-sister or reaching out to a jealous conspirator step-brother falling down from a badly constructed Sheesh Mahal. The middle-aged Uncle sitting next to me was sobbing probably reminiscing good old times with his siblings when he was younger or so I thought.
A Diwali and Bhai Dooj release for a movie like this will definitely pull the crowd. Huge Blockbuster. And why not? There are worse Salman Khan movies that have done well at the BO.
A typical Sooraj Barjatya movie where he reiterates the importance of family values. Poorly directed.
