Kerala High Court orders IFFI to screen Sexy Durga, denying I&B ministry’s decision

Thank The Almighty for this victory! Kerala High Court gave the final verdict regarding the screening of Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s much talked about film, ‘Sexy Durga’. Kerala High Court overrules I&B ministry’s ban on this much controversial film. With the ban uflifted, ‘Sexy Durga’ can been screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), currently in progress in Goa.

This could very well come as a good news for Ravi Jadhav and his Marathi film ‘Nude’, which was also banned from screening at the Indian Panorama section of IFFI.

After Sasidharan moved the high court, following the film’s exclusion, Justice K Vinod Chandran ruled in favour of the film, stating that the CBFC – certified version of the film was entitled to be screened at the festival.

The ministry had raised concerns that the Hindi title of the film could “hurt religious sentiments” and that the makers had submitted the “uncensored” version for the screening. However, the HC turned down all these objections, simply adding that the ministry had no powers to overrule the decision made by the jury.
