"Water for Elephants" to be Released on 22nd Apr 2011 in US

“Water for Elephants” (2006) is a best-selling novel by Canadian-born Sara Gruen.The book published by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, a division of Workman Publishing, has been translated into 44 languages. It sold over a million copies and was on the New York Times Bestseller List for 12 weeks in a row.

A film adaptation of the famous book by Flashpoint Entertainment and Fox 2000 Pictures is scheduled for release in the movie theaters across US on April 22, 2011.

The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, and stars Robert Pattinson as the young Jacob Jankowski, Reese Witherspoon as Marlena, and Christoph Waltz as August. Hal Holbrook plays the older Jacob Jankowski. The cast include Mark Povinelli as Kinko/Walter and Jim Norton as Camel, James Frain as Rosie’s caretaker, Ken Foree as Earl and Paul Schneider as Charlie O’Brien.

On Sunday, Sara Gruen’s walked on the red carpet at the Ziegfeld Theatre along with the cast of the Water for Elephants. Academy award winning actress Reese Witherspoon is the protagonist of this movie.  Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz were also walked down the red carpet. The party continued till late night at Le Cirque. However the biggest attraction of the movie, Tai – a 42-year-old, California based 9,200-pound elephant — was missing at the premier.

It is learnt that the publisher of Water for Elephants, Algonquin Books, are also hosting movie premier in Chapel Hill, and it will be a more literary event, with the staff of Algonquin and several authors like Lee Smith, Jill McCorkle and Daniel Wallace having been invited.

Recalling the publishing of this book, Ina Ina Stern, associate publisher at Algonquin said, “We knew that we had something really special,” She added “There are so few manuscripts that come in that when people read them, everybody is enthusiastic. We decided to do whatever we could to make this a big book for us.” “We’ve been riding this elephant a long time,” Stern said, looking forward to the celebration.

Gruen’s fourth novel “Ape House”, published by Alogonquin, also received rave reviews and she is  involved in community causes.
