Julianne Moore

Spectralhues hereby unveils a treasury of golden tidbits of the splendid, magnificent 87th Academy Awards Ceremony presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), popularly known as Oscar Awards which this year was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

First, let us have a glimpse of the noteworthy winners….

It seemed to be an indelible and memorable night for the Birdman director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, whose film seized four golden sculptures every film aspirant craves for. His movie pulled in awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography. The decision seemed to be coming out of the blue, as Boyhood was largely in the expectations list as a favorite film.

Eddie Redmayne bagged the Academy Award for his brilliant performance in Theory of Everything as genius physicist Stephen Hawking. He generously dedicated his award to people worldwide surviving with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Best Actress Award was hauled by Julianne Moore for her power-packed rendition in Still Alice where she impersonated a sufferer of Alzheimer disease. Like Redmayne, she also dedicated her award to the ones diagnosed with the disease,” People with Alzheimer`s deserve to be seen so we can find a cure.” This 54 year old actress openly proved that age stands out to be a meager factor when it comes to Hollywood.

Such social issues were majorly discussed during ceremony this year. Other topics like immigration and gender equality were also taken in light.

Lady Gaga`s astounding performance and her quirky style dragged numerous eyeballs….

Lady Gaga`s flowing, glittery white gown designed creatively by Azzedine Alaia was surely beautiful, but what caught everyone`s eyes were her super quirky red hand gloves. Memes regarding her ‘dishwashing gloves’ went viral on all social networking sites in no time.

But what astonished everyone was her humble tribute to the Sounds of Music in order to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the film, which was awarded The Best Picture Award in Oscars 1966.

Eddie Redmayne

She sang a medley that included of “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” “The Sound of Music” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”. She impressed everyone with many saying that it was her best performance ever. The masterly actress and also the lead of Sounds of Music, Julie Andrew made it up to the stage to embrace Lady Gaga and praised her, “Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute. It really warmed my heart. It’s hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since that joyous film was released.”

What John Legend and Common did to bring tears to everyone`s eyes?

Be it their heartbreaking musical performance of ‘Glory’ from the movie Selma or their evoking acceptance speeches, the duo won everyone`s heart, leaving their eyes moist! The marvelous song beautified by John Legend`s vocals became more stirring due to Common`s rapping. Was this less, the song also won the Best Song Award the same night.

Through their stimulating acceptance speech, they posed strong question related to the development of society and in what way it is still lagging behind.

Excerpts from the speech:

Common said the bridge Dr. King and his protestors marched across is no longer just a symbol for Civil Rights — it’s a symbol for discrimination based on “race, gender, religion, sexual orientation and social status. This is for the kid from the South Side of Chicago to those in France standing up for freedom of expression to those in Hong Kong protesting for democracy.”

“Nina Simone said it’s an artist duty to reflect the times we’re in,” Legend said. “Selma is now because the struggle for justice is right now. We live in the most incarcerated country in the world. There are more black men under correctional control today than there were in slavery in 1850.”

John Travolta`s creepiness popped up this year too..

John Travolta's awkward moment with Scarlett Johansson at oscar 2015

Travolta’s awkward journey at Oscars this year started with planting a sudden, impromptu kiss on Scarlett Johansson’s cheek, leaving her back completely awestruck. But she took the whole event sportingly, smiling back at the cameras in oblivion.

While this was not enough for Travolta, his next famous creepiest movement was Idina Menzel’s chin-grabbing act. Famous for his jokes, last year at Oscars` Travolta famously called Idina Menzel “Adele Dazeem”. This year to seek his revenge, Idina deliberately announced his name as Glom Gazingo. Getting the hint, John climbed up the stage and said, “I deserve that.” Later, he grabbed her chin out of nowhere saying, “But you, you my darling, my beautiful, my wickedly talented Idina Menzel. Is that right?” This clumsy moment not only left everyone in the audience amazed but also feeling awkward, weird and creepy.

A pick of classy fashionistas on the red carpet….

Actress Rosamund Pike seemed to be wearing the dress which went accordingly with her name. Her slit gown creating a velvety appearance gives an illusion of her being dressed in roses. Actress Emma Stone wearing Elie Saab looked picture perfect in her glittery golden attire.
