Gordon Willis – The DoP of The Godfather Dies At 82

Gordon Willis, the man who defined cinematography in 1970s, passed away today. He was 82.

Widely renowned for his magnificent photography of “The Godfather” series and Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall” and “Manhattan”, Gordon was director of photography for seminal 1970s films including  “Klute,” “The Paper Chase,” “The Parallax View” and “All the President’s Men.”

Known as the Prince Of Darkness for his extensive use of arty shadows, Gordon He received an honorary Academy award in 2009 at the first Governor’s Awards ceremony.

He was a regular in the early Woody Allen movies including “Interiors,” “Stardust Memories,” “Broadway Danny Rose,” “The Purple Rose of Cairo” and “Zelig”. He was nominated for Oscars for Zeig and The Godfather III.
