As long as one is healthy, size doesn`t matter: Delnaaz Irani

Actress Delnaaz Irani, renowned for her brilliant acting in several films, serials and plays interacted with Spectralhues about her love for theatre, experiences in reality TV shows and more. Below are the transcripts:

You have done theater, movies as well as television series.Which is dearer to you?

I love theater! Because it is about live audience. But I have always appreciated all three because Tv is like your rozi-roti, your daily bread and butter, it gains you a lot of money. Movies – they are like, even after years, they make a history. Even after 100 years someone will pick up Kal Ho Na Ho, watch it and say, “Oh Wow!” All three mediums are very different. I don`t want to compare, but theater is my first love and will always be!

Tell us something about your Bigg Boss experience

I stayed in there for 100 days. It was really a wonderful experience and I think I am blessed to have had a chance to be part of all big reality TV shows.

How was it participating in Power Couple?

It was a good experience there.

These days very well-known magazine covers are eager to take plus-sized models on their covers. What would you like to say about that?

Well, I am endorsing a brand called Amydus, which has a collection of plus-sized women garments. It is a kind of revolution. Like when Shuchi said that people don`t relate to a big woman being the protagonist, I think that when people start portraying such women on covers, there will be a whole different perspective to things, people will come forward and there will be much more to these weight issues and stuff like that. People will start thinking beyond all of this.

So, it is a kind of healthy proposal, a welcome change. As long as one is healthy, size doesn`t matter and I have experienced that. I do feel tired after my play and I am like Oh! I need glucon-D and all. Because I am almost 45 now and I cant`t be jumping around on the stage. But I do it even today. I feel that it is a big achievement. I also know if I work out, I would be ten notches above what I am today on stage. But as I said, I will have to put myself before my work. Because right now, it is all about working, going on time, coming back late, going for shows, etc. So, in all this where do you give yourself time? If I want to have even 2 hours for myself, I will have to reduce on my work then.

How do you strike balance between your professional and personal life? What is your mantra?

I don`t have a major personal life. I have a very sweet man in my life. He is a DJ and so his work also starts in the evening. So, we have almost zero social life. But he is extremely supportive. Whatever little time we get, we go out for dinner or for coffee or just spend time at home watching movies. Whatever time I get, I do spend with him and that`s my way of socializing. My mom and Percy are the two important factors in my life and I give all my time to them. Partying and going out is what I hardly do. It is just meeting up with friends once in a while.

Which is the serial or play that you have enjoyed most working in?

I am enjoying my current serial, Akbar- Birbal, thoroughly. Also, the play which I am doing now, Powerfool Couple, I am giving it all my best.

Thank you!
