Grand Masti : The 4th highest Opener of 2013

The Indian critics have all rubbished the adult-comedy “Grand Masti” which released this weekend. The genre that is slowly progressing with Delhi Belly, Kya Kool Hain Hum franchise and this one has all been cornered by the critics as duds. But nevertheless, they all have gone for decent business over the years. While Delhi Belly from the house Grand Masti box office resultof Aamir Khan was a undercurrent hit of the time – the Super Kool franchise also did decent business. And, now the Masti sequel stood to be the 4th highest opener of 2013 the others being Chennai Express on top followed by Yeh Jawani Hain Diwani and Race 2.

After a grand opening, the film went even stronger on Saturday heading for over 40 crore this weekend. In the international arenas also – it has extraordinary collections – $200,000 in two days excluding Sunday collections.

The collections and audience likening about the genre poses a severe question that if Indians critics are still not ready for an adult-comedy. They complain for a base-less plot with explicit sexual references overbearing at times. But the genre demands so. It has to be loosely plotted and has no reality-tinges on it. Which American Pie series movie has a strong plot? But it is an overtly successful franchise worldwide recognized for the sex-comedy genre. And, for a sex-comedy – the central attraction of the movie is comical sexual references. And, it has to be explicitly arrayed along with. Though admittedly, this Grand Masti is not up to the mark in interpreting the comical situations – not even near to Delhi Belly in considerations – but if the genre has to be taken into account, this movie is not a dud, specifically to its target audience group. And, the box-office collections are proving that already.
