Anurag lashed at censors, but still has ‘faith’

The much hyped movie of this year “Bombay Velvet” starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma and marking the debut of Karan Johar, has received criticism from censor board. The movie is said to have used the cuss words and promote violence, this was probably cited as a reason for denying the U/A certificate.

This movie was Anurag Kashyap’s dream project, but his request to pass it out with U/A certificate was turned down when the members of Central Board of Film Certificate (CBFC) watched the period drama last week. They said that the movie isn`t worthy enough of being watched by all sections of audiences.  Anurag has been carrying an angry man look these days, then be it through his tweets or getting furious at press members at various events. This nature might have got reflected in his movie as well and thus the examiners have thought it to be a pure violence creation. A source informed, “The Board asked for several cuts, including the deletion of certain cuss words like `son of a bitch’. They also wanted some violent sequences toned down. And many members of the Examining Committee (EC) agreed that given its theme, the crime saga is more suited for adult viewing.”

The film is just 10 days away from its nation-wide release, and it being a high budget film of around 100 crores, the director undoubtedly is tensed as the ‘A’ certificate would limit its reach and may shake the expected collections. It was obvious that the filmmaker will take some action in order to achieve a U/A certificate, and so, he has decided to approach the Revising Committee of CBFC. He has full faith that his request will be reconsidered and that his movie will seek justice.

“There is absolutely nothing in the film that warrants an `A’ certificate. We are going to Revising Committee. No hungama happened, we just didn’t agree with the cuts the Board asked for. I have more faith in the CBFC’s Revising Committee. Let’s see how it goes,” Anurag was quoted telling this to Mirror.

Let us witness now, who wins this legal battle and whose request finally gets accepted! But it is for sure, that if Anurag loses it, his investment expenses are to imbalance, and his dream project will get followed by a minor disappointment. Hope the right one wins!
