Dance Pe Chance Maar Le!

In this country full of doctors and engineers, all other creative fields suffer ignorance. Parents wish their children to be ‘well-settled’ in future and earn hard-to-believe ‘packages’, such is our country, such are the mindsets of people here. Very few decide to go different from the flow and dare to tell their parents that, ‘Yes! I want to become a singer’ or ‘I aspire to become a dancer’. Those who do this; they live their dreams and color the world with their artistic skills.

Remo D'souzaIt is all about struggle, if you are ready to face the hurdles, you will achieve your dreams! It is time for all of us to move beyond our confined walls and give various career fields a chance. Few have already done this and set an example for all of us to follow. Some television channels give numerous talents from India a golden opportunity to explore their skills, groom them and flaunt them in front of the whole nation. Dance India Dance is one such popular famous reality show which gives aspiring dancers a dais to show their grooves.

A lot many contenders who got exposure through this show are now blazing in the success and achieving the top peaks in their dance stream. Many of them even got a chance to act in Remo D’souza’s ABCD franchise. This fame and name didn’t come easily to them, struggle was served even on their platters.  Raghav Juyal is one of them who left all his dreams behind, and came to the city of dreams- Mumbai. While in his teens, not board exams, but his dance dream sparkled in his eyes, to fulfill which he didn’t think twice and took train straight to Mumbai. He fell but didn’t give up, he struggled but didn’t back out. Sleeping on benches and hardly having any ideas of how to make the future successful- this was what his life was all about during initial days in this glam city. And today, he is being cast along with some of the Bollywood biggies like Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor. He is famously known as CrocRoaz and also the King of Slow Motion as he was the one who invented this dance style. “Leaving home against my parents’ wishes, I have seen a lot in life. But I take everything in the positive spirit,” he sportingly says. Currently, he hosts the brand new dance show on Star Plus, Dance+. He owes his piece of fame to dance master, Terrence. “Terrence sir supported me like anything. Now, that I am on track, I am glad my parents have accepted my wish to pursue a career of my choice.”

Another significant name from this list of dancers is Punit Pathak. Even he was one of the participants in earlier seasons of DID and presently, he himself is judging the 5th season of the show, such a glorious shift in position. Even he wasn’t born with silver spoon in his mouth and has struggled really hard to achieve this designation today. He wasn’t even allowed to dance in school.  “I used to travel in bus and train and dancing was not allowed in school. It is only when I reached Punit Pathakcollege that I started taking part in college fests. During that time, Terence sir (Lewis) was looking for young dancers and out of the 89 participants he auditioned, I was taken the last minute to dance with him. I worked with Terence sir for four years and never thought that I would become a choreographer, because at the back of my mind I always wanted to try films. It is only that by chance and opportunities, I am now an actor and dancer,” he says.

For this matter, even Remo D’souza, the dance maestro, guru and their mentor is not behind. Struggle was written in his destiny, too. He isn’t even professionally trained when it comes to dancing. He considers the legendary Michael Jackson his role model and learnt from watching tv and videos. About his struggling days, he says, “At the beginning I had no source of income and consider myself lucky to be staying with a very sweet family. I didn’t have any money to pay them initially and they, too, didn’t ask for it. After few days I opened a dance class by the name of Super Brats at Churni Road. I along with three of my friends soon opened two more branches of the institute, one in Andheri and other in Borivali.  I used to travel to Churni Road in the morning, take the class there, come to Borivili for the second class and then catch the train to come to Andheri for my last class before I can go home.”

About fickle nature of this industry, he opines, “Actually, you can’t plan anything in this industry. If your luck and hard work is there it will happen. I think planning is not there in Bollywood dictionary. You will have to stick to the thing you want to do.”

This is how all these people, despite choosing outlandish career option, landed in the paradise of success at the end. They didn’t think out of the box, they thought as if there was no box. If your dreams are concrete, then none can keep you from accomplishing them, at the end of the day, you will get to taste the success, above stories are a strong evidence of it!
