‘I Am Kalam’s’ Platoon Expresses Condolences As The Visionary Passes Away

The living legend, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who inspired millions of souls with his works joined the stars on 27th July creating a void here on earth, filling which is impossible. One such person to get influenced by his noteworthy work was Nila Madhab Panda who went on to create a film inspired by Kalams early childhood struggle story.

‘I Am Kalam released in the year 2011 and further won numerous acclamations including national awards. Set in the backdrop of Rajasthans dry, desert area, movie focused on the expedition of a boy and how he made his impossible dreams come true, and his journey from illusion to reality.

In a brief talk to TOI, Nila said that he now, wishes to make a biopic on Dr.Kalam. “I would love to make a biopic on him if given a chance and things like financial resources and other things. I think such film on his life has to be made to ensure he remains alive in our memories.”

I Am Kalam movieSanjay Chauhan, the writer of the various award winning films like Paan Singh Tomar had written the screenplay for I am Kalam. Sharing his experience he said, “In the quest of an inspiring tale which should not be preachy we zeroed in for Dr. Kalam as the children of present generation who are exposed to internet, television and I-pad would like to see a film on the subject they have seen themselves. I had heard of a story of Dr. Kalam that he used to sell newspapers to pay for his school and that urged me to write this film.”

The film was shown to Dr. Kalam on 29 July, 2011 who immediately appreciated it. Harsh Mayar, the little boy who played the pivotal role in the film says, “He (Dr.Kalam) urged me to chase my dreams and apart from my acting should continue studies.” He was the role model and source of inspiration for almost every youngster of India.

Actor Gulshan Grover who played a certain character in this film accepted zero amount for it; now, he desires to essay the main role in the biopic. “I would love to play his role, if ever offered and written well by the writers. He was an institution which inspired people of every age, caste, creed and religion not only through his work but also the way he used to carry himself,” he said.
We just hope to see the film being made soon on the life of the person, whose sole agenda was spreading knowledge, inspiring, encouraging and motivating others, and the one who dedicated his soul while doing so! The film will of course be an exceptional one!
