A talented man and a spectacular actor

A CLOSE GLIMPSE OVER SUPER`STAR` VILLAIN-cum-HUMORIST OF BOLLYWOOD `GALAXY`- LATE SADASHIV AMRAPURKAR.

To the saddest grievance, news of another shining star falling off from the cluster comes our way this year. The doyen actor and ‘best-of-the times’ evildoer who gripped audiences’ minds with his spine-chilling performance, Amrapurkar finally bade adieu to the cosmos on Monday morning at the age of 64, leaving everyone back to mourn over his appalling doom. The old-time actor was tormented by lung infection and being treated for the same at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. After having a long combat for survival, he finally passed away with lung infection.

Born and raised up in a Maharashtrian Brahmin family, Sadashiv Amrapurkar was adopted by Ganesh Kumar Narwode. This extremely talented actor hit theatre stages as well as the silver screen with his solid villainous roles. He was lovingly called as Tatya by his family members and friends. He has carved his golden name not only in the entertainment industry as a heart-throbbing actor, but also in the society as pledged citizen. He was a social activist and philanthropist and was always inclined towards helping under privileged ones from a very young age.

The actor holds with himself two Filmfare Awards for his acting career in Bollywood, better known for his negatives roles and action-packed performances in films like Sadak, Ishq and Ardh Satya. His prodigious performance in Ardh Satya (1983) won him the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actor and his acting in Sadak (1991) was so praised that he won the Filmfare award again for his role as an eunuch named ‘Rani’, this time for Best Negative Role.

His acting career commenced in theatre where he directed and acted in nearly 50 plays. Amrapurkar made his film debut with a Marathi flicker namely 22 June 1897 where he played Bal Gangadhar Tilak. After a while, he chose Govind Nihlani`s Ardh Satya to showcase his sturdy acting skills on Hindi screen for the first time. His roles left a noteworthy impact on Indian Bollywood. Later in 90`s, this man famous for villainous roles, startled everyone with his comical ability in films like Aunty no 1, Aankhen, and several more to name. His last on screen appearance was in Bombay Talkies where he did a cameo in the short film by Dibakar Banerjee.

On Monday morning as news of Amrapurkar’s death came in, all social networking sites got flooded with messages expressing condolence over this super actor`s demise. Many Bollywood celebs too, adhered to twitter to express their tenacious melancholies. This much of grievance expressed by almost every Indian surely won`t let us deny the truth of the Irving Berlin`s quote that “the song is ended, but the melody lingers on…”
