Bollywood Needs To Work Harder As Hollywood Shows Its Magic

bollywood

So far, 2015 has not proved to be a lucky year for Bollywood movies, of course, some movies being exceptions. But in otherwise cases, the reason is either lack of creative content or the new virus of Hollywood movies which is rapidly captivating Indian market these days.

Few decades ago, movies were considered as the only best medium of entertainment, hence, audiences didn`t use to have high expectations. But as the time passed, even the most exquisite Bollywood started feeling the flames of heated competition, as Hollywood marked its remarkable step in Indian industry. Choice of Indian viewers has really evolved, and not only they are following new trends, but also opting for something out-of-the-box, proof being last few months. Why take examples of only foreign movies to prove moviegoers` changed taste? Wide acclamations achieved by Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Badlapur, Piku and the recent Dil Dhadakne Do showed that even they are no less when it comes to content-driven films, but the weak part is that Bollywood is not constant in giving such films. Whereas, in comparison to them, Hollywood is pretty fast and most of their flicks succeed in making good amount at the box-office due to their eccentricity.

Have a look back, and you are sure to notice the slight shift of audience, which is expected to escalate even more in coming days if Bollywood does not groom itself soon. It is time for some fast action, or else even we won`t realize when Hollywood will overtake the Indian box-office, which currently is posing itself as a great threat.

  • Hollywood movies, today, are reaching till every nook and corner of the city because of their dubbed versions. For instance, the ensemble film, Fast and Furious 7 was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages, no doubt why it was being watched by larger masses. It opened to a weekend of 12 crores and grossed around 100 cr in next 3 weeks. If this dubbing fashion gets adopted by English films of other genres too, it won`t be so long before we see Hollywood movies overruling the hearts of Indian viewers.
  • Hollywood movies are no more a second choice for people here, and are certainly on the hitlist. We were probably wrong when we assumed that no movie can beat an authentic Bollywood film. Why? Because in last few months, Hollywood films have beaten Hindi films and gone to earn not only praises, but humongous amount too at box-office counters. Fast and Furious 7 released along with Detective Byomkesh Bakshy; where this Sushant Singh Rajput starrer didn`t even manage to reach the 100 cr line, F&F 7 became the first Hollywood film to reach 100 cr club and made a business of 110 cr alone in India. Despite many speculations and colossal buzz, Hamari Adhuri Kahani visibly failed to mark its impression and its competitor Jurassic World made a weekend of 35 cr, which turned out to be more than former`s collection. Avengers: Age of Ultron had a minor Hindi film named Solid Patels to compete with, and therefore went on to gain 77 cr.
  • What is more? Where every film producer struggles to get festival, national holidays and solo release date, they seem to become timid when Hollywood announces its release. Mission Impossible Rogue Nation is the much anticipated film of this year and in addition to that, has got a solo release date on August 7 this year. Learning from earlier experience, it appears that Hindi filmmakers are not really willing to take risks by allowing their films in competition, putting the business at stake. Along with the releases of 3 Khans and multi-starrer Indian cinemas, producers are vigilantly keeping a check on Hollywood release dates too. But what is its outcome? Foreign makers are getting encouraged more, gaining fame here and making a huge amount with no race to face. Rather than giving them a clear path, can`t Indian makers come up with something better than foreign movies? Isn`t it always fair to stay in race by offering your best than to run away? Hope that our producers get this simple fact soon and give Hollywood a tough fight. Unless and until they deliver something outlandish, audiences are going to continue to stay in Hollywood`s favor, which undoubtedly is a not-so-good thing.

Upcoming Hollywood Movies Which Are Expected To Make A Good Business Vs Bollywood Films On Same Date:

  • Mission Impossible Rogue Nation and Spectre are getting Solo Releases – August 7 and November 6 respectively
  • Star Wars Episode VII : The Force Awakens Vs Hera Phera 3 and Bajirao Mastani — 18 December (This release date is not yet confirmed and is subjected to change, discussions are still on. Howbeit, it has been announced as initial release date for the time being)

Let us see now what turn and twist this heated competition takes and who turns out to win big: Bollywood or Hollywood. We wish that Bollywood takes this serious threat soon into consideration and starts working on it!
