PURPLE LIPSTICK, AWARDS, KILLING DRESSES, BOOING AND MORE FROM CANNES ’16

When you are talking about the Alpha of all film festivals, you need to really expect something humongous! While the last week was quite a glamorous one, this one saw moments that were awe inspiring and equally shocking. Here is how things unfolded:

Does anyone know how dresses can kill while one is walking down one of the most glamorous red carpets around the world? Well, if not all, these ladies surely do!

Bella Hadid – Alexandre Vauthier

Bella Hadid (2)

A silky-red Alexandre Vauthier gown, hair pulled back in a sleek fashion, black strap heels, diamond accessories and minimal make up. Put that together and we have one of the sexiest looks of all time. Add to that the gorgeous looks of Bella Hadid and an enviably toned body — you cannot help but be absolutely mesmerized by this goddess. We will let the picture do the rest of the talking.

Sonam Kapoor – Ralph & Russo

 Sonam Kapoor

Our desi diva may have rocked many outfits at Cannes, but this white Ralph & Russo piece with a long, embroidered cape definitely stole the show. Her hair was let loose and the absolutely well done white makeup helped Sonam have her angel moment.

Karlie Kloss – Marchesa

Can this model do anything wrong? I think the fashion police all around the world will say NO in unison. Rocking a black, off-shoulder Marchesa creation, the mid parting along with a pop of red on lips completed this flawless look. Also, how can someone not mention those diamond bracelets, earrings, that studded clutch and those beautiful heels? *DROOL*

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan- Rame Kadi Creation & Ali Younes

Aishwarya Rai

PURPLE LIPSTICK- I guess this sums up Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s outing at Cannes this year. Yes, she did adorn some elegant and stylish outfits which included a floral Rami Kadi creation, a nude Ali Younes Couture gown, and looked ravishing while doing so. But what can we say; Joey did it before it was cool.

Kendall Jenner

Is it possible for us to have a best dressed list without Kendall Jenner in it? There is a reason everyone waits eagerly for this diva to take on the Cannes red carpet – she looks flawless and nails absolutely every look. Be it her feathered or plunging neckline with fringed bottom outfit at the Vanity Fair and Chopard after party, she owned each and every outfit and red carpet event.

Blake Lively

Blake Lively

One thing is absolutely certain by now – this year’s Cannes red carpet belongs to this stunning mom-to-be. Her outing, this year, has seen her taking on the Disney Princesses one by one. From her Cinderella moment in a visually stunning Vivienne Westwood creation to channelizing her inner Elsa in a blue Atelier Versace gown, there was no stopping this lovely lady from letting go (yes, pun indeed intended) of her ‘Best Dressed’ crown. Her baby bump actually helped her seal the deal.

Awards, booing, premiers and more: All that happened in just one week.

YES, you read it right, one week. Here’s what happened:

Kristen Stewart gets booed – The press can be tricky, applauding you for some not-so-good performances and taking you down for one of your career best. Kristen Stewart was at the receiving end of this, as at the end of her next movie, Personal Shopper, she was taken down by booing from the audience. She accepted the criticism positively and simply let her best roles do the rest of the talking.

Personal Shopper gets a standing ovation– What a cruel world can it be! The same film which people booed at Kristen Stewart for, received a standing ovation at its premier on Tuesday night. This Paris-set psychological thriller got booed as well as applauded when it was first premiered on Monday for the critics. And wait, there is more, the standing ovation was four and a half minute long! I say it again, FOUR AND A HALF MINUTE.

The Critics’ Week Sidebar Awards– The Critics’ Week Sidebar Awards were given out on Thursday night. Directed by Oliver Laxe, Mimosas bagged the top prize winning the Nespresso Grand Prize, which includes €15,000 ($16,955) prize. A total of seven films competed in the Critics’ Award which focuses on new talent. Here is a complete list of the winners:
