Social media has a broader definition than you think. It is no more just a socializing platform. Social media means business. Selling through social media is a thumbs up.

If you don’t know where a place is, you Google it! What if you are not present there? The customer jumps to your competitor who has a presence online, thus becoming easily accessible.

 Samsung Mobile: Has 14 million fans on Facebook, 4 million followers on Twitter, 86 million views on Youtube.

Walt Disney: Attracted 1 million new fans on Chinese network Sina Weibo and over 2 million fans on Facebook.

samsungNational Geographic: Was the most popular brand on Youtube in 2013. Its videos were watched an incredible 160 million times.

Nike: Produced viral videos featuring world’s biggest sport stars. Was viewed 50 million times on Youtube.

Google: 3 million new Facebook fans making total following to a whooping 15 million fans.

Coca Cola: It’s ‘Share A Coke’ campaign lead to 15 million new fans on Facebook. A massive 58 million views on its Youtube channel.

 MTV: 10 million additions all over Facebook, Twitter & Google+.

 Facebook: World’s most popular social media in 2013. It is the most followed brand on Facebook with over 16 million fans in the current year.

Movies opting for Social Media:

Dhoom 3

In a bid to position Dhoom 3 differently, 99Games Online Pvt. Ltd and Yash Raj Films Pvt. Ltd. launched the official game for the Dhoom 3 movie on the Windows Phone. “Join the Chase,” a campaign hosted on a dedicated Facebook app was another endeavor. What was common to both endeavors was the spirit of reality and involvement.

WeChat, the “All-In-One” social messaging application chose to partner with the makers of R…Rajkumar to connect with the youth across the country.

Bullet Raja

Micro blogging site Twitter was the social media platform Bullett Raja used to host an inter-city competition challenging fans from various cities to show their love for Bullett Raja. As a result of this initiative, the number of Twitter followers for Bullet Raja rose from 876 to 1,227 by the end of the contest. #wewantbulletraja trended on the 29th and 30th of September, 2013 and a 40% increase in the number of followers was seen within just two days of the contest.

 Jai Ho

Jai HoUpcoming film Jai Ho is already making waves on social media, way before its release. Salman Khan had announced the release of Jai Ho’s first trailer on December 5, but the event got postponed by a week and fans only grew more restless.

However, the actor did not disappoint his fans and got on to a social networking site to invite them to design the first poster of his much awaited film Jai Ho.

 Celebrity switching to Social Media for marketing:

Beyonce took a step ahead when it came to ditching traditional marketing.

She surprised her fans by releasing a self titled album online. Beyonce simply posted video featuring images of her and the cover of the album on Instagram, with the caption “Surprise!” After her announcement on the social media site, the 14-song album appeared for sale on iTunes, as did 17 different videos from it. Within 12 hours, 1.2 million tweets were posted about “Beyonce” and within the first 24 hours more than 430,000 albums had sold on iTunes
