1

Sip N Read, an online reading portal based out of Mumbai, brings together eight authors on a single online panel to talk about Reading and Writing Indian Literature. This panel discussion is a tie-in with the global book launch of Bound in Love, the third novel of author Neil D’Silva. The other authors who will be on the panel include names like KetanBhagat, RasanaAtreya, Anjali Kirpalani, Laxmi Hariharan, SundariVenkatraman, Kirtida Gautam, and Shiv Ramdas.

Neil D’Silva is the author of the bestselling novel Maya’s New Husband, which has been on the Amazon India bestseller list in the horror genre since January 2015, when it was launched. His second novel, The Evil Eye and The Charm, a collection of short stories based on the Indian nimboo-mirchi superstitions. With Bound in Love, Neil D’Silva shifts genre and presents eight stories on different aspects of human relationships. He is also the founder-admin of the 6000 member strong Facebook group For Writers, By Authors and the editor of the emagazineUnBound.

The panel discussion will follow the release of the book, wherein each of the stories will be introduced by one of the authors in attendance. After the brief release ceremony, the panel will be opened up wherein a discussion will be conducted on reading and writing Indian literature. Common literary genres that find favor with Indian readers will be discussed, after which the conversation will move towards experimental literature such as which India has seen of late.

There will also be a discussion on the future of self-publishing in India, and how it stands vis-à-vis traditional publishing. The authors attending the panel are a mix of self and traditionally published authors, and they will provide their own insights on this topic.

KetanBhagat, the author of Complete/Convenient and Child/God and the brother of ChetanBhagat, will speak on literary genres that capture the attention of Indian readers. Anjali Kirpalani, the author of Never Say Never and Written in the Stars, and a radio personality as well, will speak on what interests young Indian readers. Shiv Ramdas is another traditionally published author, with the sci-fi novel Domechild to his credit.

RasanaAtreya is the author behind The Temple Is Not My Father, Tell a Thousand Lies, and 28 Years a Bachelor. She is one of India’s pioneering self-published authors and has featured in the Tibor Jones shortlist for Tell a Thousand Lies. SundariVenkatraman, author of self-published books such as Matches Made in Heaven, The Runaway Bridegroom, The Malhotra Bride, Meghna, and the recently traditionally published The Madras Affair, is another prolific author, and so is Laxmi Hariharan with her Ruby Iyer series. The panel will be rounded off by Kirtida Gautam, whose recently released book #IAm16ICanRape is an example of how a hard-hitting issue can be tackled in an entertaining manner. Neil D’Silva will also be part of the panel.

When speaking about this event, NeeleshVishwakarma, the founder-partner of Sip N Read says, “Bringing so many authors on one stage is a coup of sorts. It will be highly illuminating to hear what these writers of different genres have to say about reading and writing trends in India.”

The event goes online on Facebook on August 30, 2015, from 8:00 pm IST onwards. The event is an open public event.

About Sprightly Spirit

“I dare do all that may become a man. Who dares more is none”. And all, may be. It may be the vigor. Or the spirit. Or the courage to avoid being “politically correct” or bent. And, ban all averse with immaculate overture of graciously fathomable words firm in views. Subtle. Justifying the undying conscience. Values. Knowledge. And, dares to stay true. True to own. True to the world. And, to the words. With a dream in eyes it exists. In you. In me. In all. The sprite that never shies away. The spirit that never dies!
