Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexievich wins Nobel Prize for literature

Svetlana Alexievich of Belarus won the Nobel Prize in literature 2015 “for her polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time.”

 The 67-year-old is the 14th woman to win the Nobel Literature prize in its 107 years history. She is also the first journalist to win this prize.

 Alexievich’s 1985 debut novel, “The Unwomanly Face of the War,” was based on female victims who had fought against the Nazis, the book was sold over 2 million copies.  Her  translation works include Voices From Chernobyl, an oral history of the 1986 nuclear catastrophe; and Boys In Zinc.
