Yes, his accent is real, for sure!

Now, we know that when we mention ‘The Big Bang Theory’ the first thing that actually comes to mind is the ever popular TV sitcom instead of the phenomenon that created the universe. For those few of you who haven’t heard about the TV show, The Big Bang Theory is one of the most successful sitcoms of the 21st century. The story focuses around two physicists, Leonard Hoftstadter and Sheldon Cooper, their neighbor, Penny, who is a waitress/actor and their friends Howard Wolowitz, an aerospace engineer and Raj Koothrappali, an astrophysicist. The show follows their geekiness and intellect which adds a comic effect to the entire show.

1But no, this article is not about the TV show, but about a person involved with the show and his recently launched book. It’s our very own Raj – Kunal Nayyar. Very popularly known as Raj Koothrapali from The Big Bang Theory, Kunal Nayyar has gone a step ahead and released a new book named, ‘Yes, My Accent is Real: And Some Other Things I Haven’t Told You’. Following in the steps of Mindy Kaling, the book consists of stories and essays about how he rose from a little Delhi boy to star in one of the most enjoyed TV shows of all time. Written in a humorous and irreverent way he recounts tales of his first kiss and how he thought of it as a life-long commitment and chugging down Coca Cola while his nose bled, yes, the things we do to impress people! But more importantly, the main motive of the book, as Nayyar says, is that his accent is real. Thus, the title of the book. Speaking to CBS, the actor said that people actually think that he is not Indian and question him about his accent as they feel that he is faking it.

As he was questioned about his interest in acting, Nayyar went on to say that he came across theatre quite accidentally while studying Business Management at the University of Portland. He went on to say that he joined theatre because he was pretty lonely and wanted to make friends as he felt that all misfits ended up in the theatre. For the first time there he felt that he belonged.

The book also talks about his wife of four years, NehaKapur, a former Miss India Universe. Vogue magazine labeled Nayyar and Kapur as. ‘The Beauty and the Geek’. Nayyar talks about her in the book at length. When he saw her for the first time to being in a blissful relationship with her.

With an amazing fan following all over the world, ‘Yes, My Accent is Real: And Some Other Things I Haven’t Told You’, promises to be humble and comic read.
