Rajdeep Sardesai’s ‘2014: The Election that changed India’ is worth reading

Veteran journalist and popular TV anchor Rajdeep Sardesai has influenced many to take up journalism as profession. His sharp analysis, timely criticism and sense of humour has never let go easily any of the powerful persona in India without answering. His debut book ‘2014: 2014-the-election-that-changed-indiaThe Election that changed India’ is another example of how the Consulting editor of India Today group has been considered as one of finest journalist India has ever produced.

The sixteenth Lok Sabha election has been regarded as the most important elections since 1977. Rajdeep said that to him 2014 election was in the same league as first election in 1952 and in 1977, ‘in the aftermath of the emergency’. In this book Rajdeep critically analyzed the ‘political tsunami’ in which Congress was decimated and BJP, under Narendra Modi emerged victorious with majority. It has also ended a coalition era since 1989.

The book focused on sharp contrast between Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi and style of their campaign. One side there was Manmohan Singh, an ineffective Prime Minister and corrupted UPA II, on the other side there was ex-Gujarat chief minister with ’56-inch chest’. There was vibrant Team Modi and his orating power, on the other hand ‘the extraordinary missteps of Rahul Gandhi’.

The book is a fascinating reading. It takes us to the period when the process of tectonic shift of power began. It is a documentation of Modi’s conquest of Delhi and BJP’s rise in heartland.

Let’s look back to experience the battle of all battles, 2014, the elections that indeed changed India.

About Sprightly Spirit

“I dare do all that may become a man. Who dares more is none”. And all, may be. It may be the vigor. Or the spirit. Or the courage to avoid being “politically correct” or bent. And, ban all averse with immaculate overture of graciously fathomable words firm in views. Subtle. Justifying the undying conscience. Values. Knowledge. And, dares to stay true. True to own. True to the world. And, to the words. With a dream in eyes it exists. In you. In me. In all. The sprite that never shies away. The spirit that never dies!
